ACLU Sues Texas Detention Facility
The American Civil Liberties Union has officially filed a lawsuit against federal immigration officials at the T. Don Hutto immigration detention facility that is located in Tyler, Texas. The lawsuit is brought on behalf of the children confined at this facility.
The ACLU claims in its lawsuit that both adults and children are being detained at this facility in jail-like conditions and that the children are not being provided with adequate schooling or medical care. The ACLU also states that the children are not allowed to bring either books or toys into the facility.
Many of the people who are currently detained in the facility are those who are seeking asylum in the United States. They could potentially wait more than 200 days before they are scheduled for a hearing with an immigration judge who would decide whether they will stay in the U.S. or be deported.
The ACLU's main argument for the release of the children from the detention facility is that it is against the law and against American values to place children in a jail-like setting, without access to school or recreation.
there are other jails in which people waiting for deportation are being detained and housed in facillities other than immigration holdings and where the detainees are being treated unfairly or being taken advantage of by big goverment contracts and sub contracters I.E communicatins companys.Icalled the PINAL COUNTY JAIL in Florence,Arizona{the pinal county jail has a contract with immigration to house immigrants} today to ask for the mailing address for the detainees.I wanted to send to my wife letters from my self and our 3 daughters along with a couple of photos.I was informed that the only correspondence that the detainees were allowed are post cards. i asked the detention officer if that applied to detainees that they are holding under a contract with immigration and i was told yes. About 2 weeks ago i talked to a immigration officer and was told by him that the pinal conty jail was under contract and is supposed to give the people in detention under that contract the same privliges as if thay were in a federal detention. Also pinal county jail is using a phone company for all calls that is called p.c.s daily dial .this company charges 9 dollars and some cents for a 15 minuet call when you use a credit card to set up an account for an inmate to call you.the amount is less if the inmate puts money on the books from the inside ,but in my wifes situation there is a catch her pin# that the jail issued to her is invalid so she has now been there for 3 weeks with out a way to call out.In my opinion these or this company is taking advantage of the hardships of the people inside and thier families on the outside. maybe if we the people who all have been taken advantage of by these companys that thrive off of others hardships got together we could or can do something about the outrageous amounts we are charged to communicate with our loved ones. antonio arciniega
